In the entertainment industry, a "green room" is an area backstage where artists and performers can relax and hang out when they're not on stage.
Not just anyone has access to the green room – it's a special place for people like you who are doing great things, offering of themselves and their creativity to the world.
I love that idea when applied to us as creators – The Green Room at Story Greenlight is a place to connect and learn, but also a place to help you GET. STUFF. DONE.
Not just anyone can both do AND teach. I do both.
I built my career over the last 20 years as a broadcast television editor in Los Angeles. I’ve helped shape content for ABC, NBC, Universal, Disney, Apple, and many others.
I’m the author of Edit Better: Hollywood-Tested Strategies for Powerful Video Editing, and I’ve appeared in the USA Today, Time Magazine, The Associated Press, and multiple textbooks.
For over a decade now, I’ve been coaching and mentoring creative people through online businesses that have served students in over 40 countries through 6 different continents.
Through my work here at Story Greenlight, I coach and consult YouTube creators with followings under 1,000 all the way to many millions.
"Jeff is one of the most accomplished, trusted editors I've ever worked with. Anyone wanting to learn from him should jump at the chance."
FRANK SINTON, COO A. Smith & Company, Former VP Programming FOX Sports,
Former VP Programming Disney Channel
"Jeff's advice and insights have taken our projects to a whole new level."
TIM SCHMOYER, Founder/CEO Video Creators (516K)
"We're relatively new to YouTube, but we learn as we go, especially from you."
MICHAEL STELZNER, Founder/CEO Social Media Examiner (50K YT, 500K FB, 1M website visitors monthly)
Everything we do at Story Greenlight follows what I call The IDEA Method, the process I built to take any creator from where you are to where you want to be.
Here’s how The IDEA Method works:
I – Identify. You need to correctly identify what your content is and how it shows up in the world. You also have to identify who it’s for, and how that affects your content creation.
D – Deepen. You need to deepen the core knowledge of how powerful content creation works and the techniques to connect in deep, meaningful ways with your audience.
E – Evaluate. You need the outside perspective to see what’s working, what’s not, and what to change. THIS IS A CRITICALLY IMPORTANT PIECE that most creators never find.
A – Advance. You need the community, expert mentorship, and motivation to take focused action on the most important elements that will move you and your content forward. Most creators try to do everything on their own, then wonder why they never accomplish what they know is possible.
JULIA LINCOLN-STEFAN, Supervising Editor at Video Creators (516K), Owner at Studio Lilum, Vienna, Austria
"Jeff is a master at helping YouTubers tell better stories. I'm a huge fan!"
EVAN CARMICHAEL (2M)
"The response that I've gotten from my viewers has just been stellar. Instead of getting comments like "Hey man, that was cool to watch, I'm getting comments like "Man, your videos aren't just about making cool stuff. They're about making a better life." You just can't buy that kind of connection."
DAN THOMPSON, Guns and Guitars (150K)
The Green Room is a private, virtual community of active YouTube creators with followings under 1,000 and over 300,000. We’re all about real world teaching, creativity, brainstorming, and feedback on each other’s content.
There’s only so much you can do with “tips and tricks” videos that you’ll find all over YouTube – you have to have a foundational knowledge of how content creation works and why, and you have to know how that does or doesn’t apply to your own work.
The Green Room is all about applying both big picture strategies and nuts-and-bolts tactics to your own content.
The Green Room meets with regular interaction online:
Green Room members have access to a growing library of pre-recorded teachings and trainings – both from past monthly meetings and standalone sessions.
Plus 24/7 access to a private Facebook community of select, sharp creators who all “get it” – we help each other:
"I see what Jeff is saying, I see what the other members are saying, and I'm just always so blown away. I'm just like, 'Yes! This is what I've been trying to figure out for the past three years since I've returned to YouTube. Oh, thank goodness that this person said it like this!'"
STEFANIE HINTON, Milo & Stefanie Do FL
As I mentioned above, we use my system called The IDEA Method to move you from where you are to where you want to be:
I – IDENTIFY what your content is, how it works, and who it’s for.
D – DEEPEN your core knowledge of how powerful content creation works.
E – EVALUATE what’s working, what’s not, and what to change in your content.
A – ADVANCE to your goals with community, expert mentorship, and focused action.
To help you IDENTIFY what your content is, how it works, and who it’s for, you’ll get instant access to:
The Insider’s Guide is a do-it-yourself online course based around 4 categories of questions that I’ve built up over my 20 years shaping content for some of the largest media outlets on the face of the planet.
These are the same questions I ask myself every day I sit down to edit for NBC, Universal, Disney, or consult with high-end clients.
The Insider’s Guide lays out a simple path for you to get clear on what your content actually is, how it shows up in the world, and which audience will be the best fit for it – and how to apply it to YOUR own videos.
This course is available online for $149.
It is a GAME-CHANGER.
When you join The Green Room today, you’ll get instant access to The Insider’s Guide to Creating Amazing Videos for FREE.
Then, to help you DEEPEN your core knowledge of how powerful content creation works, you’ll get instant access to elements of:
The Creative Edit (TCE) is Story Greenlight’s flagship group coaching program.
TCE is a 4-week virtual workshop built around expert mentorship and creative community to help you DEEPEN your core editing and storytelling skills so you can build an unbreakable bond with your audience.
This means more creative satisfaction for you as a creator, plus more views, subscribers, and income as your impact as a creator spreads in the world.
When The Creative Edit is in session, a select cohort of creators meets every week for teaching sessions from me, regular assignments, group feedback, and private interactions throughout the week. Sometimes we use our own footage, other times we use professionally shot footage that I supply so we all see how other people shape the same footage.
TCE brings incredibly valuable, unique perspective to creating that is virtually impossible to experience otherwise.
The foundation of that experience is the teaching sessions that I am continually refining and improving every time TCE is in session.
The teaching sessions go deep on:
When TCE is in session, access costs $997.
When you join The Green Room today, you’ll get instant access to recordings of the Core Teaching Sessions from The Creative Edit for FREE.
On top of that, I practice what I preach.
I’m continually DEEPENING my own knowledge and experience as I research and refine my presentations to other groups, usually exclusive groups that require paid entry or aren’t available at any price. To help you DEEPEN your core knowledge even more, you’ll get instant access to special trainings I’ve done for:
We all have easy access to tips and tricks from YouTube gurus talking about how to get your audience’s attention with great Titles, eye-popping Thumbnails, and the most search-worthy Tags.
But what happens then? Once people click on your stuff, how do we actually get them to care enough to keep watching, engage in a meaningful way, and to keep watching your content in the future?
In this 45-minute presentation, I break down three HUGE ideas for how you can achieve exactly that.
One of the holy grails for YouTube creators is viewer retention – as in, how much of your videos your viewers actually watch, and the closer to 100% the better.
Hollywood has a long history of grabbing people’s attention and making it virtually impossible to go anywhere else. We have that power at our hands too, but most people have no idea how to make that happen.
In this hour-long session, I layer my 20 years of broadcast television experience on top of my multiple years as a YouTube creator to detail ideas that anyone can put into use to make sure your audiences not only watch your pieces, but they watch more and more of them to the very end…
Plus some very smart creators asking some very smart questions during the Q&A section at the end. Incredibly valuable conversations here.
The YouTube EMEA Marketing Group (EMEA = Europe Middle East Africa) is based out of London and represents an incredibly diverse team from all around the world.
As creatives, we are often business owners without knowing it. We might even kick and scream and say “No no no, I do creative things, not all that other business stuff” – by the way, that was me for a long, long time.
But if we want to stand out of the crowd and spread our message to as many of the right people as possible, business concepts are absolutely part of that, specifically marketing and sales – which at its core is just another word for “persuasion.”
If you’re a human being, you engage in persuasion of some sort. It’s a critical skill for getting along with other humans.
In this half-hour presentation, I talk about how story, persuasion, and communication apply to all of our worlds… certainly as creatives, but ESPECIALLY if you interact with businesses or brands.
This is a private presentation created for Google/YouTube employees only – and now exclusively for members of the Green Room.
"It's been such a great opportunity to work with Jeff and the members in the Green Room just collaborating with other people with the same like-mindedness of wanting to tell a good story."

RECORDINGS OF PAST MEETINGS AND PRODUCED TRAININGS – the library is constantly growing.
THE CREATOR STORIES CASE STUDY – the most killer, detailed, no-holds-barred case study I’ve ever done, featuring the premiere episode of Creator Stories, the documentary series from Tim Schmoyer at Video Creators. It just so happens to feature the story of my career in Hollywood, AND I edited the episode myself before moving to a consultant role for the rest of the series.
"Jeff knows how to attract interesting and creative people to himself. It's been nice to have people that I can turn to and I can say, "How do you think I should apply this?" And they know exactly what I mean."
THOMAS ALEXANDER, Esperanto Variety Show
We want you to stay with The Green Room because it’s an incredibly valuable and important part of your creative and community life, not because of some contract or minimum commitment. If you need to, you can cancel at any time. If you join at the annual rate and need to cancel, we will refund you for unused months too.
"The Green Room is for anybody who wants to improve the level of content that they're making."
BENJAMIN HARTY, Freelance Content Creator, Former USMC
"My channel has never been doing better than it is right now. And I owe a lot of that to The Green Room."
DAN THOMPSON, Guns & Guitars (150K)
It's true, pretty much any information can now be found for free somewhere online. But here's the flip side of that: the amount of information that's instantly available to you is INSANE. You'd spend the rest of your life going through all the information that's out there from millions of different sources, most of which are meaningless to you.
To move forward, you DO need information, but not just any information – you need the RIGHT information and the RIGHT guidance applied to YOUR situation.
That's an incredibly valuable combination, especially if you don't have years and thousands of extra hours to slog through oceans of information to get there on your own.
Also, the right people understand that people who want things for free almost never find the results they want. Without exception, I have found that the most engaged and successful community members at Story Greenlight are already actively creating in some way, and they have showed themselves that they are serious about moving their creating forward by purchasing a course, consultation, or membership. Every single time.
Those are the people you want to be around, because those are the people that will help you move forward.
Great question. In short, I’m not a “succeed on YouTube” guy. I’m a “here’s how to connect with your audience and spread your message” guy. I’m a “how to reach your creative potential and level up your content” guy. These are the kind of things that work for ANY size audience, whether you’re talking to one person or to millions. And I’ve been doing both for many years now.
YouTube tactics are important. But I’ve found that communication and content creation skills are a huge gap in most YouTube teachers’ content among all the teaching about getting more views, subscribers, and ad income.
And guess what? When you know how to connect with other human beings in a powerful way, they DO end up watching more of your stuff, and YouTube serves up more of it to the right people. Which, if you’re playing your cards right, does end up with more views, subscribers, and income.
Nope. As a point of reference, I shoot on a mid-level Canon DSLR and edit in Adobe Premiere. There are more expensive and complex tools than that, and plenty of simpler, less expensive ones too. The things you’ll learn and the ways you’ll grow in The Green Room go beyond equipment or software. Use whatever tools work for you.
Come as you are – we have a range of experience and audience size in our members. That’s the beauty of ideas – they interact with you where you are right now. Then you grow, and the ideas take on new meaning at that new level!
Yes. We also have an annual option for you to save even more.
Not for you. Though we may raise the price in the future for future members, this is your price, and it won’t go up.
Nope. We want people to join and stay with The Green Room because it’s an important part of your creative and community life, not because you’re stuck in some contract. If your situation changes or you need to cancel your membership for any reason, you can do that at any time. If you join at the annual rate and need to cancel early, we will refund your unused months.
Our monthly video calls include teachings from me (Jeff), group discussion, and lots of individual Q&A. We meet the 2nd Saturday of the month at 11am Pacific. That’s 2pm Eastern, 7pm London, and 4am Sunday in Sydney (yes, we even have hard-core members who join us early in the morning!)
Absolutely. Ultimately, content creation goes beyond any specific niche – it’s about problem solving and connecting with your audience. That’s what we’re all about. And as always, there’s zero risk to you – if you feel The Green Room isn’t the right fit for you, you can cancel any time.
"Without the Green Room, I don't think that I would still feel as hopeful and as optimistic about YouTube. It's the only group that I've ever been able to find where you actually get great feedback from people who want to see you succeed just as much as they want to succeed themselves."
STEFANIE HINTON, Milo & Stefanie Do FL
"Since becoming part of The Green Room, I feel like I'm part of something more than just me trying to do this all on my own. It's just been a really great experience."
DAN RAINES, Ride Puppet
Whatever you could accomplish by yourself is only a fraction of what you can accomplish when you’re guided by an expert coach and a motivated group who “get it.”
It’s time for you to break through YOUR creative barriers and create the content that you know is possible.
Let’s see YOU build rock-solid connections with your audience, spread your message, and make your mark in the world.
